We have lowered the prices for sequencing! See www.genomics.purdue.edu/~core for more details.

We quietly past the 30,000th sample submitted to the LTL (low throughput lab). Since most samples are sequenced in both directions this means ~60,000 reactions done by Paul, Ann, Allison and the rest of the hard working crew.

Other fun LTL facts:

  • We opened for "official" business in May, 2001. Our first clients were from Drs. Bennetzen, Ogas, and Hrycyna's labs. Our most recent client was from Dr. Omar's lab.
  • Our 10,000th sample (from Dr. Staiger's lab) was done on 15-Jul-2003.
  • Our 20,000th sample (from Dr. Suter's lab) was done on 20-Dec-2004.
  • Our 30,000th sample (from Dr. Harrison's lab) was done on 16-Feb-2006.
  • After a couple of years of steady use during 2003 and 2004 the number of samples run during 2005 increased by about 40% to over 8,500 for the year. To date (30-Mar-2006) the current year also looks to be a record breaker. We may reach 10,000 samples (and thus ~20,000 reactions) during 2006. Paul and his crew are ready!
  • 175 labs have used our services during the last 4 1/2 years. During the last 6 months 108 labs have done LTL samples. Each lab often has multiple students, techs and faculty using our services.
  • Use of the facility is fairly spread out amoung the labs. Our largest customer -- Dr. Kuhn's lab -- represents about 7% of our work. The 10 largest customers represent about 40% of our submitted samples.

The sequencing facility also offers HTL (high throughput -- 96 wells at a time) sequencing and Affymetrix array processing.
